A Royal Pet Portrait Fit for the Throne

Royal portraits of dogs and cats are a tradition with a sense of humor. Our Royal style takes your pet’s real face and places it in a regal portrait: a jeweled gold crown, a rich crimson velvet robe trimmed with white ermine, a pearl necklace and a lace ruff, set against a deep, dramatic backdrop with soft Rembrandt-style lighting.

People order it as a king or queen portrait, a regal pet portrait for the living room, or a funny but elegant gift for someone whose pet clearly rules the house. The robe is the same for every pet, so it works for kings, queens, princes and princesses alike, and your pet’s name appears on a small gold nameplate at the bottom, like a painting in a museum.

Upload a photo, choose Royal and see a free preview in about 30 seconds. If you love it, pick a size and frame. Prices start at $89 for a gallery-wrap canvas and $129 for a framed print, with free US shipping on prints.

Photo Tips for a Royal Portrait

A regal portrait works best when your pet looks regal. Look for:

  • A head-on or three-quarter view. The crown sits on top of the head, so avoid photos taken from above or with the head tilted down.
  • Both ears visible. Cropped ears can look odd under a crown.
  • A calm, confident expression. A serious look is funnier in velvet than a goofy one, though both work.
  • Sharp eyes. Zoom in on your screen and check they are in focus.
  • A simple background. The portrait replaces the backdrop, so plain walls and furniture work best.
  • Natural light. Window light shows the true coat color, and avoid flash.
  • The original file. Screenshots lose detail.

Royal, or Another Classic Look?

Several of our styles borrow from classic portrait painting:

  • Royal is the crowned, velvet-and-ermine portrait described here, the classic choice for a king or queen.
  • The General dresses your pet as a decorated military officer in an antique oil portrait, with gold epaulets and a navy jacket.
  • Galactic Knight is a moody oil portrait of your pet as a sci-fi knight in a hooded robe with a glowing green sword.

Because previews are free, you can try all three on the same photo and choose your favorite before you pay for anything.

Questions

Royal Pet Portrait FAQ

Both. The portrait uses a regal crimson robe with ermine trim and a jeweled crown that suits any pet, so your girl can be a queen and your boy a king. The gold nameplate shows whatever name you choose, such as “Queen Bella” or “Sir Winston.”

Yes. The portrait is created from your photo, so your pet’s face, markings, ears and expression carry through. The preview shows you the result before you pay, and if the first photo doesn’t look right, you can try another, since previews are free.

It does. Cats look especially dignified in a crown and ruff, and the style works for rabbits and other small pets too. Choose a photo where the face is clear and both ears are visible for the best result. Our custom cat portrait page has more cat photo tips.

A high-res digital file is $29. Gallery-wrap canvases run from $89 (12″×12″) to $139 (24″×36″), and solid-wood framed prints from $129 (16″×16″) to $169 (24″×36″). Prints ship free in the US, and the name on the plaque is free.

Yes, if they are together in one photo. Upload a photo with both pets and we will include them at no extra charge. A king and queen pair is a popular choice. Our two pets in one portrait page has tips for getting a good group shot.
