The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Portrait, Revived
Toy spaniels like yours show up in old royal paintings for a reason: those huge, dark eyes and silky ears were made to be painted. A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel portrait carries on a very old tradition, just with your own photo as the starting point.
All four Cavalier colors work beautifully. Blenheim (chestnut on pearly white, often with that little thumbprint spot on the forehead), tricolor, black and tan and rich ruby. Because your custom Cavalier art is created from your picture, the markings, the feathered ears and that soft, slightly worried expression are your dog’s own.
Pick a style, see a watermarked preview in about 30 seconds, and order only if you love it. Your portrait is printed on museum-grade paper and framed in solid wood, or printed on gallery-wrap canvas, after you approve a digital proof. Shipping within the US is free.

Photographing Those Eyes and Ears
Cavaliers are easy subjects, they’ll sit beside you all day. A few tips for the photo:
- Catch a light in the eyes. Their big dark eyes can look flat in a dim room. Sit them facing a window so you see a small bright reflection in each eye.
- Brush the ears. The long feathered ears frame the face in a portrait, so smooth out tangles and let them fall naturally.
- Blenheim and white coats blow out in direct sun. Bright shade or a cloudy day keeps the white soft and the chestnut rich.
- Ruby and black and tan Cavaliers need more light, not less, so the eyes don’t disappear into the coat.
- Shoot at eye level, not from your lap. Looking down on a lap dog shortens the nose and hides the chin.
- Show the forehead. If your Blenheim has the lozenge spot, make sure it’s in the frame.
Styles That Suit a Cavalier
The General feels right for a breed named after a king. An antique oil portrait with a historic uniform and gold epaulets gives your Cavalier the stately treatment their ancestors got, with a wink.
Watercolor Earthy is beautiful with Blenheim and ruby coats. The warm brown tones echo the chestnut and red, and the soft edges suit the breed’s gentle face. It’s also a lovely, calm choice for a memorial.
Sparkle plays up those enormous eyes. The polished, semi-realistic look and dreamy blue sparkle background make a tricolor or black and tan Cavalier look positively starry-eyed. It’s a sweet choice for puppies, too.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Portrait FAQ
If it’s visible in your photo, it usually carries through, since your portrait is created from that picture. Choose a photo where the top of the head is in frame and well lit. Check the free preview, and you’ll also see a digital proof by email before anything is printed.
Yes: Blenheim, tricolor, black and tan, and ruby all work well. The darker colors benefit most from a bright, daylight photo so the eyes stand out. Lighter Blenheims look best out of direct sun. Try your photo in two or three styles in the preview to see which flatters the coat most.
Yes. Many people choose a portrait to remember a Cavalier who has passed. Use the clearest photo you have, even an older one, as long as the face is in focus. Watercolor Earthy and Watercolor Blue are gentle choices. You can also add your dog’s name to the portrait for free.
Yes. Upload one photo showing both pets and we’ll include them together in one portrait at no extra charge. Cavaliers are usually happy to cuddle up, which makes a two-pet shot easier than with most breeds. Make sure both faces are visible and in focus.
After you order, we email a digital proof. Once you approve it, production takes 1–2 business days, then it ships free by USPS Priority, which typically takes 2–5 business days. If it arrives damaged or misprinted, we’ll replace it free.
