Beagle Portraits for Your Favorite Nose

A Beagle is a nose with a dog attached, and anyone who has tried to photograph one knows the problem: the nose is usually pointed at the ground. When you do catch that face looking up, with the long velvety ears and the big brown eyes, you’ve got the makings of a beautiful beagle portrait.

Most Beagles are tricolor, with a black saddle, tan head and white blaze, chest and tail tip. Others are lemon, red-and-white or chocolate tricolor. That mix of bright white and deep black is tricky for a phone camera, so good, even light matters. Every portrait is created from your photo, so the markings stay true to your hound.

Preview it free, then order framed from $129 or canvas from $89, with the name added free. For more hound-and-family-dog inspiration, see Dachshund portraits, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel portraits and every breed on our custom dog portrait page.

Tips for Tricolor Coats and Long Ears

Getting a Beagle to look up long enough for a photo is half the battle. These help:

  • Hold a treat over the lens. Nothing beats a Beagle’s nose. A treat right above your phone gets the eyes looking at you.
  • Use even, soft light. Tricolor coats combine bright white and deep black. Overcast daylight or open shade keeps both from losing detail.
  • Let the ears hang. Shoot from slightly above eye level so the long ears fall naturally beside the face.
  • Catch the pleading look. The classic Beagle expression comes right before a treat is handed over. Shoot then.
  • Mind the white blaze. Direct sun or flash turns the white stripe down the face into a glowing streak.
  • Indoors works too. A spot near a big window is often easier than a backyard full of distracting smells.

Art Styles with Beagle Energy

Vector Look is a natural fit for a Beagle. The bold, animated cartoon style on a white background makes the tricolor markings crisp and graphic, and that famous pleading expression reads clearly from across the room.

For a warmer, classic piece, Watercolor Earthy uses brown and earth-tone washes that echo the tan on a Beagle’s head and ears. It’s particularly lovely for lemon and red-and-white Beagles, and for senior hounds with a gray muzzle.

Want to make people laugh? Galactic Knight shows your Beagle as a sci-fi knight with a glowing green sword, in a rich oil-portrait look. A small hound with a heroic pose is exactly the kind of joke a Beagle household tends to love.

Questions

Beagle Portrait FAQ

Hold a treat or squeaky toy right above your phone lens and take several photos quickly; you only need one with the eyes looking up. A three-quarter angle, where the nose points slightly away, also works if the eyes are visible and sharp. Upload a few options in the free preview to see which gives the best portrait.

Markings come from your photo, so the clearer they are there, the better the portrait. Even light is key: harsh sun or flash tends to wash out the white and crush the black saddle. Vector Look and Pop render markings as bold, clean shapes, while the watercolor styles soften them. Compare a couple of styles in the free preview.

You can, and it can make a hilarious, very Beagle portrait. Upload it and see the free preview. Keep in mind an open mouth and tilted head change the face shape, so if you want a classic portrait for a memorial or gift, a calm, closed-mouth photo with the eyes visible is the safer choice.

For a face-and-ears portrait, the 16″ × 16″ framed print ($129) or 12″ × 12″ canvas ($89) is a popular choice. The 16″ × 24″ framed print ($139) works well if your photo shows your Beagle sitting with the white tail tip in view. Framed prints come in solid-wood Pecan, White Oak or Matte Black.

Yes. Upload the photo that feels most like your Beagle, even if it’s an older phone photo or a scan of a print. A sharp face matters more than a perfect background. Watercolor Earthy is a gentle choice for a memorial. Your Beagle’s name can be printed free, and you’ll approve an emailed digital proof before printing.
