A Bernedoodle Portrait as One-of-a-Kind as Your Dog
A Bernedoodle mixes the Bernese Mountain Dog’s sweet nature with the Poodle’s wavy or curly coat, and the result can look like almost anything. Classic tri-color black, white and rust; bicolor; phantom; sable; merle; or solid black. Tiny, mini or standard, from a lap-sized pup to a 90-pound couch hog. A Bernedoodle portrait has to look like your doodle, not just any doodle.
That’s why every piece of Bernedoodle art we make is created from your own photo. The white blaze, the rust eyebrows, the shaggy or freshly groomed teddy-bear face all come from the picture you upload. Dark doodle faces are notoriously hard to photograph, so the tips below help too.

Photo Tips for a Curly, Tri-Color Doodle
Dark curls and mixed markings take a little extra care. Try these tips:
- Find the eyes first. Black doodle eyes hide in black curls. Trim or brush the fringe and tap the eyes on screen to focus there.
- Bright, soft light. Dark coats need plenty of light. A big window or open shade outside works far better than a lamp-lit room.
- Show the tri-color face. The rust eyebrows, cheeks and white blaze are the classic Bernedoodle look, so shoot straight on.
- Pick a post-groom photo. A fresh teddy-bear cut shows the face clearly. A shaggy coat is cute but can bury the features.
- Kneel down. Shoot at eye level so the head and chest fill the frame instead of the top of a curly head.
- Merle needs even light. Patchy shadows can be confused with merle patterns. Even daylight keeps the real markings clear.
- Use a treat for focus. Doodles are easily distracted. Hold a treat just above the lens for a direct look.
Best Art Styles for a Bernedoodle
Watercolor Earthy is our first pick for tri-color Bernedoodles. Warm brown and earth-tone washes echo the rust markings and soften dark curls, so the whole portrait feels cozy and warm.
Pop suits the goofy, clownish side of the breed. Bold, colorful paint splatter gives a black-and-white coat plenty of contrast, and it looks especially fun with merle and phantom doodles.
For a sweet, polished finish, try Sparkle. Its semi-realistic look and dreamy blue sparkle background make that teddy-bear face look extra cuddly, and it’s a lovely choice for puppy portraits and gifts. The preview is free, so try your photo in all three and compare side by side.
Bernedoodle Portrait FAQ
Yes, if they’re visible in the photo. Each portrait is created from your picture, so choose one taken in bright, soft light where you can clearly see both eyes. Brushing the fringe aside helps a lot. If the first preview comes out too dark, try another photo; the preview is free and takes about 30 seconds.
Markings come from your photo, so merle patches, phantom points and tri-color blazes carry through when they’re clear and evenly lit. Avoid photos with strong shadows across the coat, which can blur the pattern. You’ll also approve a digital proof by email before anything is printed.
Either works. Bernedoodle coats often change color and texture as they grow, and some lighten with age, so pick the stage you want to remember. Puppy photos make sweet gifts, while an adult photo shows the full curly coat. Upload JPG, PNG or HEIC files up to 20MB.
Yes. Upload one photo with both dogs and we include them together in one portrait. Doodle pairs are popular, so choose a photo where both faces are in focus and roughly the same distance from the camera. A wider size like the 16″ × 24″ framed print ($139) gives both dogs room.
For a single head-and-shoulders portrait, the 16″ × 16″ framed print ($129) or a 12″ × 12″ canvas ($89) works in most rooms. A big standard doodle looks great at 24″ × 24″ ($149 framed). For a full sitting pose, 24″ × 36″ is $169 framed or $139 on canvas. Shipping is free in the US.
