Poodle Portraits for Every Size and Clip
Poodles change their look more than any other breed. The same dog can go from a sculpted topknot to a fluffy teddy-bear clip in one grooming appointment. A poodle portrait captures the version of your dog you love most, whether that’s show-ring elegance or the scruffy weekend look.
Color matters too. Black and brown Poodles hide their eyes in curls, white and cream dogs can wash out in bright light, and apricot, red, silver and parti coats each have their own subtle tones. Every portrait is created from your photo, so those details come from your dog.

Photographing Curls, Topknots and Solid Colors
Curly coats soak up and scatter light in their own way. A few tips:
- Time it after grooming. If you love the fresh clip, photograph it within a day or two while the shape is crisp.
- Find the eyes in a dark coat. Black, brown and blue Poodles need light on the face. Sit them facing a window so the eyes catch a highlight.
- Keep white dogs out of hard sun. White and cream curls lose all definition in bright light. Shade or a cloudy day works best.
- Show the ears. Long, curly ear leathers frame a Poodle’s face. Shoot straight on so both are visible.
- Get down to toy level. For Toys and Minis, sit on the floor so you’re at their eye height instead of looming over them.
- Wipe under the eyes. A gentle clean before the photo keeps the face bright, especially on light-colored dogs.
Matching a Style to Your Poodle’s Clip
Sparkle is a natural fit. Its polished, semi-realistic finish on a dreamy blue sparkle background suits a Poodle’s groomed elegance, and it works especially nicely for white, cream and apricot dogs.
Watercolor Blue is our most-loved style for a reason. The soft blue wash flatters every Poodle color, and it’s gentle enough for a teddy-bear clip or a shaggy senior. Black and silver Poodles look striking against it.
For a Poodle with a sense of grandeur, try The General. An antique oil portrait in a historic military uniform with gold epaulets is a wonderfully over-the-top match for a dog with a continental clip and an attitude to match.
Poodle Portrait FAQ
Use whichever look you love most. A fresh groom gives crisp shapes and clear eyes, which makes for a polished portrait. A grown-out coat feels softer and cozier, but long hair over the eyes can hide expression, so choose a photo where the eyes are visible. The preview is free, so you can test one of each and compare.
The portrait is created from your photo, so whatever the camera picked up is the starting point. Gently cleaning under the eyes before the photo shoot is the easiest fix. Softer styles like Watercolor Blue and Sparkle tend to be forgiving with small details. Check the free preview and the emailed digital proof before anything is printed.
No. The face fills the portrait whatever the size of the dog, so a Toy looks just as grand as a Standard. Pick a size for your wall, not your dog. The 16″ × 16″ framed print ($129) is a popular square choice, the 16″ × 24″ ($139) suits a full sitting pose, and canvas starts at 12″ × 12″ ($89).
Yes, if the photo has good light on the coat. Natural daylight brings out the texture of the curls and the shine of the eyes, while dim indoor light flattens everything into black. Avoid flash, which creates glare. Lighter background styles, like Watercolor Blue or Sparkle, help a black Poodle stand out instead of blending in.
Yes. If you have a good photo of the dog, create the portrait yourself and ship it straight to the recipient, with the dog’s name added free. Shipping is free within the US.
