A Samoyed Portrait That Keeps the Smile
Samoyeds were bred by the Samoyedic peoples of Siberia to herd reindeer, pull sleds and sleep beside their families for warmth, and they still want to be in the middle of everything. A Samoyed portrait has one job above all: keep the smile. Those upturned black lips, the dark almond eyes and the plush tail curled over the back are what everyone notices first.
The coat is pure white, cream, biscuit or white with biscuit shading, and it stands off the body in a thick double layer. Cameras struggle with it, flattening the fluff or turning cream into gray. Our Samoyed art is created from your photo, so the coat color and that famous grin come from your real dog.

How to Photograph a Samoyed’s Coat and Smile
White fluff and a black-lipped grin need balanced light. Try these tips:
- Catch the smile after play. A short game of tug or a run gets the relaxed, open “Sammy smile” every time.
- Shade beats sun. Full sun turns the coat into a white glow. Open shade or a cloudy day keeps every tuft of fluff.
- Watch cool shadows. In blue evening shade a white coat can look gray. Late-afternoon light keeps cream and biscuit tones warm.
- Get the dark eyes. Samoyed eyes are dark and set deep in the fluff. Shoot at eye level with light falling on the face.
- Brush after the bath, not before the photo. A fully dried, brushed-out coat stands up and looks its fluffiest.
- Include the tail. A slight side angle shows the plume curled over the back.
- Skip the shedding season. When your Sammy is blowing coat, use a photo from the full-coat months instead.
Best Art Styles for a Samoyed
Sparkle is our favorite for Samoyeds. Its polished, semi-realistic finish keeps the fluff soft and touchable, and the dreamy blue sparkle background feels like falling snow. It makes that smile look almost magical.
Watercolor Blue is the calm, classic choice. A white coat stands out beautifully against cool blue washes, and the look fits bedrooms, nurseries and coastal-style homes. It’s our most popular style overall.
For a dog that greets every stranger like a best friend, Pop is a joyful option. Bold, colorful paint splatter turns all that white coat into a bright, happy canvas. The preview is free, so try your photo in all three and pick the one that makes you smile back.
Samoyed Portrait FAQ
Yes, expression comes straight from your photo. If your Samoyed is smiling in the picture, the smile carries through to the portrait. Choose a sharp photo where the black lip line and dark eyes are clearly visible. You can check the free preview in about 30 seconds and try another photo if you like.
Coat color comes from your photo, so cream and biscuit shading carry through when the light is natural. Avoid photos under yellow lamps, which can push cream toward orange, or deep blue shade, which can make white look gray. Daylight from a window or an overcast sky gives the truest color.
Yes. Upload one photo showing both dogs and we include them together in one portrait. A white Samoyed and a dark-coated husky make a striking pair, so choose a photo with even light on both faces. A wider size such as the 16″ × 24″ or 24″ × 36″ framed print gives two big coats room.
