Why a Custom Corgi Portrait Just Works

Few dogs were born for portraits quite like the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Satellite-dish ears, a fox face and a grin that looks permanently pleased with itself: a custom corgi portrait practically composes itself. Your job is just to pick the photo.

We create your portrait from that photo, so the details that make your corgi *yours* come along: the white blaze running up the muzzle, the fluffy white collar, the red-and-white, sable or tricolor coat, even the ear that never quite stands up straight. Got a Cardigan instead? Merle, brindle and that long tail all work too.

The process is simple. Upload a photo, choose a style and you’ll see a watermarked preview in about 30 seconds. If you love it, pick a framed print or canvas, approve the digital proof we email you, and your corgi art ships free within the US.

How to Photograph a Corgi for a Portrait

Corgis are low, wiggly and mostly ears. Here’s how to get a photo that does them justice:

  • Leave headroom. Those ears are tall. Don’t crop them off at the top, give the photo a little space above the tips.
  • Ears up = magic. Say their favorite word or crinkle a treat bag right before you tap the shutter.
  • Balance the white and the red. Bright sun turns the white blaze and collar into a glowing blob. Open shade or a cloudy day keeps both colors detailed.
  • Sable corgis have dark-tipped fur that shows best in soft side light, not straight-on flash.
  • Tricolors need a little extra light on the face so the eyes don’t vanish into the black.
  • Sit, don’t sploot. The sploot is adorable, but a sitting, front-facing pose makes a better portrait. Save the loaf for Instagram.

Best Styles for Corgi Art

The General is a natural fit for a breed with royal connections. Corgis famously lived at Buckingham Palace for decades, and an antique oil portrait in full military regalia gives your Pembroke the dignity they’re sure they deserve.

Vector Look leans into the cartoon. Corgis already look like an animated character, and the bold lines and white background make those giant ears and that smile pop on any wall.

Sparkle is the sweet, polished choice. The dreamy blue sparkle background contrasts beautifully with a warm red or sable coat, and it’s a favorite for corgi puppies and gifts for corgi lovers.

Questions

Corgi Portrait FAQ

Not if they’re in the photo. Your portrait is created from the picture you upload, so make sure the ear tips aren’t cropped at the top edge. A photo with a bit of space above the head gives the best result. The free preview shows you exactly how the composition looks before you decide.

Yes. Cardigans, with their rounder ears, long tails and coats like blue merle and brindle, work just as well as Pembrokes. Merle patterns come through best in a sharp, evenly lit photo. Corgi mixes are welcome too. If it has a face and a photo, we can make a portrait of it.

We admire the ambition. The art styles are designed around your pet’s face, so a photo showing their face and expression gives far better results than a view from behind. If you love the classic over-the-shoulder look, a photo with the face turned back toward the camera can work.

For a head-and-shoulders portrait, the 16″×16″ framed print ($129) is a popular, easy-to-hang size. If your photo shows the whole dog sitting, the 16″×24″ ($139) gives the body more room. Canvas starts at $89 for 12″×12″. Every size ships free in the US.

It’s one of the best. If you can get a good photo of their dog, create the preview yourself and order it. If you’d rather let them choose the photo and style, a gift card is emailed instantly. You can also add the dog’s name to the portrait for free.
