About the Abstract Style
Abstract turns your pet into a bold, modern painting. Thick, expressive strokes and overlapping blocks of colour build the head and fur, in teal, coral, warm gold, deep navy and cream, while the background breaks up into loose colour fields, drips and broad brush marks. It looks like a statement canvas from a gallery wall, except the subject is your own dog or cat.
Abstract does not mean unrecognizable. The eyes and nose get the most care and detail, and your pet's own coat colours stay in the right places, so markings such as a white blaze, tan eyebrows or tabby stripes still read clearly through the colour. The rest of the picture is free and loose, which is what gives the style its energy. Your pet's name can be added for free in a gold script along the bottom.
It suits almost any coat. Golden and red coats glow against the teal and navy, black and tan dogs keep their markings, and tabbies turn into a tangle of gold and brown strokes. We tested it on a golden retriever, a tabby cat and a dark dog photographed on a couch, and all three were instantly recognizable. Pick a photo with the face clear and the eyes open; the background of your photo is never used.
Because the colours are strong, Abstract is made to be a focal point: above a sofa, in a modern living room or in an office that needs some colour. It looks best large, and a gallery-wrap canvas suits its painterly texture, with Black frames adding a gallery edge. For bold colour with cleaner shapes, see Pop; for a calmer painted look, Watercolor Blue.
Best for
- Modern and contemporary homes that want one bold piece of colour
- Pets with clear markings that still read through loose brushwork
- Anyone who wants abstract dog or cat art that is still clearly their own pet
- Gifts for people who already own art they love
Lovely in these spaces
- Above a sofa or a bed, as the main piece on the wall
- A modern office or studio that needs colour
- A hallway or landing where one large canvas makes the space
Think twice if
Abstract is bright and loose, so it is not the right choice if you want every hair painted in fine, realistic detail: Classic Oil does that better. It also competes with busy patterned walls; it looks best on a plain wall.

Abstract Style FAQ
Yes. The eyes, nose and face shape are painted with the most care, and your pet's own coat colours and markings stay in the right places. Only the strokes and the background are loose and abstract.
The palette is set: teal, coral, warm gold, navy and cream, with your pet's own coat colours kept. That mix is what makes the style work with most rooms.
Yes. Dark coats are built from navy and black strokes with highlights of gold and coral, and markings such as tan eyebrows stay visible. Use a photo taken in daylight so the eyes keep their detail.
It looks best large, as the main piece on a wall: 24×24″ or 24×36″ framed, or an 18×24″ or 24×36″ gallery-wrap canvas. Smaller sizes work on a shelf or a desk.
Both are bold and colourful. Abstract builds your pet from loose, thick brushstrokes with a dissolving background; Pop uses clean outlines and splashes of colour like a poster. Try both on the free preview.
