A Havanese Portrait as Charming as Your Dog

The Havanese is Cuba’s national dog and a world-class companion: small, sturdy, endlessly cheerful and happiest a few inches from your feet. A Havanese portrait should catch that bouncy, springy personality, the plumed tail curled over the back and those big, dark, gentle eyes.

The breed comes in almost every color: white, cream, gold, chocolate, black, sable, brindle and parti combinations. The coat is light and silky, often wavy, and it changes a lot between a long show coat and a short puppy cut. Our Havanese art is created from your photo, so the colors and trim you see are your dog’s, not a generic toy breed.

Photo Tips for a Havanese Coat and Face

Havanese are small, wiggly and very fluffy, so a few tricks go a long way:

  • Get down to their level. Sit on the floor so the phone is at eye height. From above, a Havanese is mostly hair and a nose.
  • Clear the eyes. That silky fringe loves to cover the eyes. Clip it back or brush it aside so both eyes show.
  • Use soft window light. Silky coats shine and white parts can blow out in direct sun. Open shade or a bright window keeps the texture.
  • Mind dark faces. Black and chocolate Havanese need more light than you’d think, or the eyes vanish into the coat.
  • Snap after grooming. A freshly brushed coat looks wavy and full. Matted or wet fur reads as messy in the art.
  • Catch the tail. If your dog is standing, a slightly side-on angle shows the tail curled over the back.
  • Use treats for the head tilt. A squeak or rustle of a treat bag usually earns the classic curious look.

Best Art Styles for a Havanese

Sparkle is our top pick for Havanese. Its polished, semi-realistic finish and dreamy blue sparkle background suit a toy breed with a sweet face, and it keeps the silky strands looking soft.

Watercolor Blue is perfect for cream, gold, white and parti dogs. The cool blue wash gives a light coat something to stand out against, and it feels calm and timeless in a nursery, bedroom or entryway.

For a dog with big personality, try Pop. Bold, colorful paint splatter brings out the clownish, bouncy side of the breed, and it works especially well for chocolate, black and brindle Havanese whose darker coats can carry bright color. The preview is free, so compare all three side by side.

Questions

Havanese Portrait FAQ

Yes. The portrait is created from your photo, so it shows your dog in whatever trim the picture captures. A puppy cut often shows the face and eyes more clearly, which makes a great portrait. If you prefer the long, flowing look, just upload an older photo from when the coat was grown out.

Color and markings come from your photo, so patches, sable tipping and brindle carry through when they’re clearly visible. Use a well-lit daylight photo rather than one under yellow indoor bulbs, which can turn cream and gold coats orange. You can check the free preview and try another photo if a patch looks off.

A head-and-shoulders portrait of a small dog looks lovely at 16″ × 16″ framed ($129) or on a 12″ × 12″ canvas ($89). If your photo shows the whole dog with that curled tail, a 16″ × 24″ framed print ($139) gives the coat room. Every size ships free within the US.

Yes, for free. Add the name when you order and it’s printed right on the portrait. You’ll see exactly how it looks in the digital proof we email before anything is printed, so you can check spelling and placement first. It’s a nice touch for gifts and for puppy portraits.

Absolutely. You can order a framed print or canvas and ship it free anywhere in the US, or choose a gift card that’s emailed instantly so the owner can upload their own photo and pick a style. If you have a good photo of their dog, you can also see the free preview yourself first.
