A Scottish Fold Portrait with Owl-Eyed Charm
The Scottish Fold’s signature feature is a gene that folds the ears forward and down, leaving a small, rounded cap on the head. Add a round face, big wide-set eyes and a sweet, slightly surprised expression, and you get a cat people call an owl or a teddy bear. A custom Scottish Fold portrait made from your photo keeps that look exactly as it is on your cat.
Folds come in nearly every color and pattern, from silver and blue-gray to cream, red, tabby and white, in short or long coats (the longhaired version is often called a Highland Fold). One useful tip: Scottish Fold kittens are born with straight ears, and the fold usually appears within a few weeks, so photograph once the ears have settled.
Upload a photo, pick a style and preview it free in about 30 seconds. Framed prints start at $129 and canvas at $89, with the name added free. See British Shorthair portraits for another round-faced favorite, or browse all custom cat portraits.

How to Photograph a Scottish Fold
Everything charming about a Fold sits right on the face, so build the photo around it:
- Shoot head-on. A straight-on view shows the folded ears, round cheeks and wide-set eyes all at once.
- Stay at eye level or just above. A touch above makes the eyes look even bigger, while shooting from far below hides the fold line.
- Keep the ears uncovered. Check that a hand, blanket or sofa arm isn’t hiding the cap of the ear.
- Light the eyes. Fold eyes run from gold and copper to green and blue. Window light shows the true color; flash turns them red or glassy.
- Go easy on silver and white coats. Slide the phone’s exposure down slightly so pale fur keeps its detail instead of blowing out.
- Get the owl stare. Folds are curious, and a toy dangled just above the lens brings out the wide-eyed look.
- Highland Folds: a quick brush of the cheek fluff gives a cleaner outline.
Best Styles for a Scottish Fold Painting
Victorian is a great match for a Fold’s round, solemn face. A high-collared jacket and cameo on a painted studio backdrop turn that owlish look into a very dignified Victorian gentleman or lady.
Vector Look leans into the cartoon quality: bold shapes, a white background and big shiny eyes make a Fold look like an animated character. It’s a fun pick for gifts and for kitten portraits.
Watercolor Blue is the soft option, and it flatters silver, blue and cream coats especially. Because a Fold’s charm lives in the ear shape, choose a photo where both ears are visible, and try more than one style in the free preview.
Scottish Fold Portrait FAQ
They will if they’re clearly visible in your photo. Shoot the face straight on with nothing covering the ears, in soft light so the fold line is easy to see. If the first preview doesn’t look quite right, try another photo or another style. Previews are free and take about 30 seconds.
Yes. Scottish Straights, the straight-eared cats born into Fold lines, are made exactly the same way as Folds: upload a photo and preview it. The round face and big eyes carry the portrait. Our process works for any cat, whether or not the ears fold.
You don’t have to wait, but a kitten’s ears may not have folded fully yet, and the face changes quickly. Many owners order a kitten portrait now and a grown-up one later. Take a burst of photos and use the sharpest frame, since kittens rarely hold still.
A 16″ × 16″ framed print ($129) is a natural fit for a round face, and a 12″ × 12″ canvas ($89) is a lower-priced square option. If your photo shows your Fold sitting upright with paws tucked, the 16″ × 24″ framed print ($139) gives a bit more room. Frames come in Pecan, White Oak or Matte Black.
Yes. Upload the photo that feels most like your cat, even an older phone photo, as long as the face is clear. Watercolor Blue or Classic Oil are gentle, timeless choices. Your Fold’s name can be printed free, and you can check the spelling in the preview before you order.
