Toy Poodle Portraits for a Pocket-Sized Aristocrat

The Toy Poodle is the smallest of the Poodle sizes, standing under about ten inches tall, yet it carries itself like a show dog. You get a refined head, dark almond eyes, a black nose and long, low-set ears, all wrapped in a dense curly coat. Add a very quick mind, and you have a dog that notices everything you do.

The coat comes in solid colors, including black, white, cream, apricot, red, brown, silver and blue, and the grooming is half the look. A teddy-bear puppy cut, a classic topknot or a full show trim each change the portrait. A custom Toy Poodle portrait is created from your photo, so your dog’s own color and trim come through.

Preview it free, then order framed from $129 or canvas from $89, with the name printed free. For the full breed family, see our general Poodle portraits, plus Maltipoo portraits and every breed on the custom dog portrait page.

Tips for Solid Coats and Tiny Faces

Toy Poodles are bright and photogenic, but a few details matter:

  • Light a black coat well. Black Poodles lose their curls in shadow. Bright, indirect window light shows the texture and the shine.
  • Keep white and cream from blowing out. Direct sun flattens pale curls into a white blob. Open shade holds the detail.
  • Find the eyes. On very dark dogs, the eyes can vanish. Shoot at eye level with soft light so the shine in the eyes shows.
  • Show the trim. Whether it’s a topknot or a round teddy-bear head, keep the whole head in the frame, with space above the topknot.
  • Use their smarts. A Toy Poodle will look at a treat or a toy held just above the phone and often holds the pose.
  • Choose a simple background. A plain wall or sofa makes the curly outline stand out.
  • Capture the posture. A sitting pose with the head lifted shows the elegant neck a Poodle is known for.

Art Styles That Suit a Toy Poodle

Royal is the obvious choice for a dog who already acts like nobility. A crown, crimson velvet and an ermine robe in a classic museum oil portrait suit a Toy Poodle’s upright posture perfectly, and white, cream and apricot coats stand out against the deep red.

For a black or silver Toy Poodle, Black & White Charcoal is a quiet, timeless option. The monochrome drawing shows off curl, shine and shape without any distraction, and it works well for apartments and offices.

For something sweeter, Sparkle is cute and polished on a dreamy blue sparkle background. It’s a lovely fit for apricot, cream and red coats and makes a great gift for another Poodle fan.

Questions

Toy Poodle Portrait FAQ

The portrait itself is created from your photo, so size doesn’t change the process. The difference is in the details: Toy Poodles have small faces, a compact build and often a puppy cut or topknot. This page covers tips for those details. Our general Poodle portraits page covers all sizes.

It can when the photo has enough light. Black coats hide texture in shadow, so shoot near a bright window in open shade and avoid direct sun and flash. Charcoal and Royal handle dark coats beautifully. Compare a few styles in the free preview and pick the one that shows the shine you love.

Use whichever look you want on the wall. A fresh trim gives the cleanest outline, while a grown-out coat looks softer and fluffier. If you love the teddy-bear cut, take the photo soon after grooming. You can always order another portrait later when the style changes.

A 16″ × 16″ framed print ($129) or 12″ × 12″ canvas ($89) suits a face-focused photo of a small dog. If your photo shows the whole sitting body and the topknot, the 16″ × 24″ framed print ($139) gives it room. Frames come in solid-wood Pecan, White Oak or Matte Black.

Yes. Upload one photo with both pets and we’ll include them together at no extra charge. Toy Poodles often pair up with a larger dog or a cat. Pick a photo where both faces are sharp and neither is hidden behind the curls, then choose a 16″ × 24″ or larger size.
